The artist claims to be influenced by French spiritualism, seeking to “make matter speak, to sublimate it” in a quest for inner truth. His painting is thus a “total plastic writing”, combining technical mastery and intuition, experimentation and the legacy of the great masters (Velázquez, Bacon, Giacometti).
Jean-Louis Bessède’s technique is based on a mix of mediums, intense gestural work on MDF panels, collage and raw materials, with a spiritual and introspective approach.
